Zombies, Cartels & Cheerleaders: 3 Television Series Filmed in Texas
The following was featured in our e-newsletter, the M2 Aerials Report. To be included in future newsletters, subscribe at the bottom of this page.
Home to the largest state fair in America, mouth-watering brisket, big open plains with gorgeous landscapes, plus beaches, cities, and small towns, Texas provides a diverse physical and cultural backdrop for many creative works on television.
Emmy award-winning aerial cinematographer, Eric Austin, is based out of Austin and has worked on some of the best TV to be filmed in Texas, including the award-winning TV series Queen of the South. Our local, experienced aerial cinematography team is able to deliver on quick turnarounds while saving travel costs and offering Texas clients the ability to apply for state tax incentives for in-state production.
Here are a few examples of work being filmed in Texas:
Fear the Walking Dead – Austin, Texas
Fear the Walking Dead is an AMC spin-off of Walking Dead, which follows two families who must band together to survive the undead apocalypse. Although set in Los Angeles and Mexico, the series has done plenty of filming in Southeast Austin over the last year, and we were there as Austin “braced for zombies.”
One of the eeriest filming locations was in an old hospital that was being renovated in East Austin. The production crew dressed it up to look like a post-apocalyptic scene, and the results were, in the distinct words of Drone Pilot Grant Lowenfeld, “super creepy.”
Queen of the South – Dallas, Texas
Queen of the South is a thrilling drama on the USA network about a woman who attempts to avenge her lover’s murder by becoming the country’s reigning drug smuggler. Texas makes the perfect backdrop, with its ties to powerful drug cartels, dusty rural landscapes, and sprawling metropolitan areas. The show has earned many award nominations and wins, including “Best Film or Show Written By a Woman.” We’ve been happy to shoot in Dallas, Texas, for several episodes in Seasons 2 and 3.
Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team – Dallas, Texas
What’s more iconic to Texans than the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders? For the fourth year in a row, we’ve enjoyed filming for one of CMT’s most popular and long-running (currently in its thirteenth series) reality TV shows, “Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team.”
From overhead views of the stadium, to side sweeping angles of cheer boot camp, aerial videography makes it easy to capture the beauty of the ladies in blue and white.
If you’re filming in Texas, give us a shout to discuss how we can fulfill your visual production needs.
